uLink is the University of Johannesburg’s (UJ) central student portal, reachable at ulink.uj.ac.za. Once you’re registered, your username is your student email address without the “@uj.ac.za” part, paired with your uLink password.
If you’ve been admitted but haven’t registered for any modules yet, log in with your ID number and the admission PIN issued by UJ’s admissions office instead. The standard student number and password only activate once registration is complete.
What Can You Do on the UJ uLink Portal?
- Register for modules and complete your annual registration.
- Access ITS iEnabler for detailed registration, fee, and academic functions.
- View and pay your student account.
- Access Blackboard (UJ’s learning management system) for course content.
- Access your official UJ webmail.
- View your academic results.
- Generate a provisional Proforma fee statement.
Before You Have a Student Number: The Applicant Portal
- Go to student.uj.ac.za.
- Log in using your ID/passport number and PIN.
- Track your application status as Admissions processes your file.
Setting Up Your Account for the First Time
New students, or anyone who’s forgotten their password, can generate fresh login credentials directly:
- Go to the uLink Create Password page.
- Enter your student number to begin identity verification.
- Choose a verification method (typically your registered phone number or email) and follow the prompts to set a new password.
Once your uLink password resets successfully, it automatically syncs with your UJ student Gmail account too, so you only need to manage one set of credentials.
Getting Into Moodle
Coursework, lecture materials, and assignment submissions all run through Moodle, UJ’s learning management system, accessed via uLink rather than as a separate login:
- Log in at the uLink portal.
- Select the “UJ Moodle Login” tile.
- Open “My Courses” to reach your module dashboard, where lecture notes, quizzes, and graded activities are posted.
Moodle works best in Chrome. Other browsers occasionally cause display or upload issues, so switch browsers first if something isn’t loading correctly. Give downloads and file uploads a little extra time if your connection is slow, particularly during the first weeks of term when traffic on the system is heaviest.
What Else Lives Inside uLink
Beyond registration and Moodle, uLink is also where you’ll manage most other day-to-day university admin: checking fee statements and making payments, viewing exam results and academic records, updating your contact details, accessing the library’s research databases, and reading official university announcements.
