UPOnline Portal – How to Log In, Register & Use It

University of Pretoria (UP) Student Portal is the official online platform for all student administration at the University of Pretoria, from tracking your application, to registering for modules, to managing your fees and accessing your academic records.

Reach the portal two ways: click “My UP Login” from the UP homepage, or go straight to the login page at upnet.up.ac.za. First-time users activate their profile with their student number and South African ID or passport number, then set a password before they can log in.

What Can You Do on the UP Student Portal?

  • Track your application and admission status.
  • Confirm or reject your offer of admission.
  • Complete online registration.
  • View and pay your student account.
  • Request a tuition fee quotation.
  • Access clickUP (Blackboard) for your module content.
  • View your academic results and history.
  • Submit proof of payment (POP) for module fees (UPOnline students).
  • Manage your residence placement (if applicable).

Setting Up Your Account for the First Time

New students need to activate their credentials before the portal will grant access:

  1. Go to the UP Portal Login page.
  2. Select “New user.”
  3. Enter your student number (your username, a “u” followed by an eight-digit number, found on your student card or application letter) and your South African ID or passport number.
  4. Create a password that meets UP’s security criteria, set up your security questions, and confirm to complete activation.

Logging In After Activation

Once your profile is active, logging in takes three steps:

  1. Go to the UP Portal Login page.
  2. Enter your student number and password.
  3. Select “Login.”

If you ever forget your password, use the “Lost password” link on the login page and follow the recovery prompts, or contact UP IT support if you’re locked out entirely.

clickUP (UP’s Learning Management System)

Once registered, you’ll access your study materials, lecture notes, and assignments via clickUP (UP’s version of Blackboard). For UPOnline students specifically:

  • Proof of payment (POP) must be uploaded within 5 days of a module’s start date, or access to clickUP will be revoked.
  • If payment requirements are not met by day 11 after the module start date, you will be deregistered with no exceptions.

Requesting a Fee Quotation

Tuition fee quotations are available as a self-help function on the UP Student Portal. There’s no need to contact the Fees Office directly for a standard quote.
